Today we I when to south with a few of my class mates we meet at Liverpool Street station but the train was delayed so we waited for every I made sure I had McDonalds before we left. While on the train we played gamed it was fun. Then when we arrived at South-end Station it was cold and we had to ask direction to the south-end beach. As we were walking we saw south-end university so my friend Saadia called her friend because she was at that campus and we were making our way thee it was funny because she was at the other campus. As we were walking down I thought it would take for every like how the walk to Brighton pier was but it was short. As we crossed the road to the elevators we saw this theme park it was every colourful and cool. We were going to go into it but as we walked down the theme park was close. As we got to the beach we saw a train that would take you to the pier by train. We decided to sit on the beach and take picture and sketch. It was getting colder and I was getting board so I decided to take some picture on my phone but in cartoon version, vintage and panorama. The ones that looked the best were the cartoon version and the panorama. We then made our way down the end of the beach and took more pictures. After that we made our way home.

This week we went to the Tate Modern Museum for the Moiro exhibition I thought it was interesting because it had such colourful work that I thought would match my theme very well. Some of the paints I liked such as (room 1) have the best location painting with the houses. Also room 4 was my favourite because it has all the colourful drawing. I didn’t like some of the rooms because I think the paintings that were big with not much drawing just dots. This exhibition was worth the £5because it has given me ideas of things that I find interesting and I could do a replica in my sketch book. This then help me decided what I wanted to base my project on Jamaica so I decided to go to the Middlesex University library to do get some books on Jamaica fashion history and the Caribbean history. I did find the books I was looking for and the information was very useful. I also was looking on the internet for the Jamaica fashion trends on 2011 but couldn’t find much so I talk to my sister in Jamaica and she told me that hat the fashion trend there is the same as in Jamaica.

I was going to research British beach fashion but I decided not to because I wanted to focus on the Jamaican side of my culture and the fashion. However I did research there fashion trends of 2011 and found out what the colour for the season was going to be. I stated to ting of ideas of what I wanted to make such as waist coat, maxi dress. Some of my ideas that I wanted to base on the on the things I found out about the Caribbean history such as pirates. So I stated to look up about the pirate history and I found it very interesting from there is came up with the idea that I wanted to a jacket base on pirate elements. Also I develop the film me and my friend shared in Brighton and South-end.

I stated to worry about how I would bring in my Jamaica culture so I called my sister in Jamaica and asked her if she could get me some fabric from Jamaica a with a Jamaica flora print and send it up with my cousin. I also told her I wanted the fabric to have some of these colours-red, yellow, green and black. This I would then incorporate into my design. Pattern

I was set on my pirate idea and I was long all over for the pirate costume pattern piece. I couldn’t find it anywhere even though I when to Oxford Street and Edmonton and though that I could make the pattern piece myself. However when my sister final got back to me after I have calling her I ask her if my pirate idea would match in with the Jamaican fashion there now and she said no .I was panicking because I had spend all this time on the pirate theme. However when I talked to Pinar she gave me an idea to use my drawings from South-end to help with my design and I got 4 good ideas and from there I decide to develop them into 2 final ideas. So I asked my class mates what elements they liked of the ideas and I should develop and they told me. From there I came up with 2 final ideas. From my design I decided that I want to pleat the top of the dress to get the effect of the drawing. So I did some samples from my fabric that I got from Jamaica. I also when to Maria to help me make my pattern pieces

Now that I had figure out what I need to do I altered my pattern pieces and stated to pleat my fabric and do some sketch book work. The pleating is taking for every.

Some family problems have develop and I have been delayed in doing my pleating. So as I was pleating I realise that if I pleat the whole fabric I wouldn’t have enough left over for the second dress so I stop pleating and decide to make the back straight and started to pleat the second dress same thing happened the fabric wasn’t going to be enough so the back for that was going to be straight. However I was still having trouble trying to work out how to keep the pleats in place so I contact my cousin the dressmaker and ask for some help she come over and showed me different ways to do the pleats. From there I continued pleating and then I iron down the pleats to make it more secure.

This week I stated to make my dress but when I cut the pattern pieces out I realise that the technique that my cousin shoed me wasn’t going to work because I pleated too small to get more pleats done on less fabric. So experimented with different ways that the pleats would stay in tack and figure out a way, from there I sewed every single pleated pattern pieces it took a long time then I had to iron them all again to get the pleat intact. From there I sew the pleated side together first then the non pleated side together. Then after I pleated the fabric Pinar helped me shibori the 2 ends of my dress with marble and arisi shibori and after steaming it for 30 mins and wait it was done I had to leave it over night it dry. Mean while I was sewing the lining together and then sewed the lining to the top oh the. Bodices while leaving room for the straps I there l. them sewed the zips on to both dresses. When then the shibori was finished drying I sewed it on to the bottom of the dress after gathering them. In addition after I sewed the bottoms on me plated the straps for the dress then sewed down the ends to each strap. After I handed sewed the straps onto the dresses I then overl-ocked the edges of the polyester because it would fry. I then hang the dress up on a manquin and Maria helped me pin it up and I hand sew the beats that were pinned up. After Maria steam it for me and I hanged the dresses up in my place.

The region‘s of pirates, generated the most intriguing stories that came from the history of the Caribbean. They were real-life swashbucklers who sailed out of island strongholds to plunder shipping all the way from New England to South America with their flying flag the skull and crossbones also know as they ‘Jolly Rogers’.

The pirates came from many different back ground however the majority of the famous pirates were Englishmen some were simple seaman, ex-navy, merchant fleet captains and British upper class. The early age of pirates were actually privateers who sailed with the blessing of the crown as along they only raid Spanish ship there action were deemed acceptable. However it wasn’t long before the taste of plunder and the life of foredoom away from the harsh conditions faced by most English seamen, lead to them becoming true pirates. Theses pirates were willing to take any prize regardless of the flag.

The quirk of nature within the Caribbean seas made the pirate’s task of capturing ships easier. The reason for this was that the Caribbean current saves them many weeks of voyage so they could get to the powerful Gulf Stream northward towards home pots. This meant that pirates could congregate around the strait and simply wait. If they needed a place to replenish supplies or find anchorage, the Bahamas which extend all the way across the mouth of the strait, were perfectly suited, for this reason the pirate haven at the New Providence Island in the Bahamas became the centre of the trade for many years.

Some famous pirates like Thomas Barrow, Charles Vane, Benjamin Hornigold, Thomas Burgess and Blackbeard the most infamous of all the Caribbean pirates sailed out of New Providence at one time or another. Eventually thought, a British naval captain, Woodes Rogers, succeeded in closing down New Providence. Also two famous women pirates in history, were Anne Bonny and Mary Read there were disguised as mean and were fierce fighters and fought alongside each other when there crew joined together.
